77 miles West of Glenallen
At 5:00 pm yesterday we decided to say goodbye to wonderful Whittier. Back through the tunnel and we were on our way.
The long tunnel is rather interesting. It is 2.5 miles long and is a shared train and car tunnel. It is only wild enough for one lane of traffic, so every 1/2 hour they switch up and have traffic move the other way. Driving in a straight line is somewhat of a challenge as your wheels sometimes want to cross over the rail tracks. This would not be the spot for a flat tire!
Through Anchorage and a quick Walmart stop for some "meds" for All 4 of us and our colds and then it was west toward the Yukon.
Another beautiful roadside camping evening wrapped up,the day in the heart of copper canyon where the mountains all have a coppery hugh to them.
